    Lanarkshire Primary Care Trust

Lanarkshire Primary Care logo Lanarkshire Primary Care Trust provides IT services for over 100 locations throughout the county of Lanarkshire in central Scotland. The larger of these locations has up to 100 users with 2 to 3 users in the smaller ones. The Trust supports over 1000 users in the region.

    The Challenge
In 1999 the Trust were looking for a centralised management information storage system to fulfil several requirements:

    • .: To utilise its bandwidth communication infrastructure efficiently.
    • .: To be able to manage users and the service provided to these users centrally including the ability to deploy applications from a central point.
    • .: To protect the confidentiality and the security of sensitive patient data.
    • .: To extend the life of 486 legacy machines.

    The Solution
In order to meet the requirements of the Trust and the challenges set, Elonex analysed the needs together with the Trust's IT management. The proposal was a Thin Client solution where applications and data would reside on centrally located server farms to be accessed by remote desktops based on the thin client computing model. It is expected that the server-centric solution will exploit fully the Trusts investments in data communication equipment and will allow more users to use concurrently the communication links.

    The Result
The main factors in selecting Elonex were locality, the after care support and the ability to provide expert services in specialist areas such as server based computing and Thin Client solutions. Lanarkshire Primary Care Trust has been very satisfied with the service provided and product quality.
