    Portsmouth City Council

    Public Sector

quote The whole process of developing a scheme that was right for both the organisation and our employees was made easy by the cohesive relationship between ourselves, Elonex and COR HCI. All of our requirements were met with ease resulting in the straightforward integration of the scheme. quote
    DAVE EVANS,
    SPECIAL PROJECTS MANAGER.

quote The success of the scheme to date with a steady take-up rate, is a sure indicator that this is something that our employees are eager to be a part of. The willingness of staff to accept a salary sacrifice for their own personal development will undoubtedly lead to benefits to us as an employer. quote
    SHAUN TETLEY,
    FINANCE DIRECTOR.

Portsmouth City Council Portsmouth City Council appointed Elonex in conjunction with COR HCI in November 2004 to offer the Home Computing Initiative (HCI) to its 9,000 employees over a 3-year period.

Portsmouth CC is one of many Public Sector organisations taking advantage of the Government backed scheme that enables employers to provide their employees with the benefit of a home PC with up to a 50% reduction in price compared to high street retailers.

The HCI scheme allows employees to loan an Elonex computer, either a desktop PC, a laptop PC or the highly acclaimed eXentia Media Centre system from their employer for an agreed monthly deduction from their gross salary. At the end of the loan period the employee may be given the option to purchase the equipment for a small one-off payment.

    The Challenge
Portsmouth City Council wanted to offer their employees a comprehensive range of computers, and other related peripherals to choose from for home use. Access to a PC and the Internet at home can lead to personal development and improved IT literacy among the workforce and their families.

Recent research has shown that 74% of all employees now use IT skills in the workplace and that by 2005, 90% of all new jobs will require them. Organisations that fail to invest in the continued need for these skills may find it increasingly difficult to compete or to retain and motivate the right staff.

    The Solution
Together Elonex and COR provided Portsmouth City Council with a unique turn key solution, encompassing an impressive range of IT products including PCs, software, printers and a variety of delivery and installation options. A comprehensive warranty and help desk support was also provided with each computer.

    The Result
A survey conducted following the first instalment of the scheme at Portsmouth City Council among its staff produced very positive results. 88% of employees are likely to recommend HCI schemes supplied by COR and Elonex. While 89% of employees were satisfied or very satisfied with the service they received. Mr Shaun Tetley, Finance Director for Portsmouth City Council is keen for the second instalment of the scheme to begin.
