Who can have a laptop under the initiative?
The new funding arrangements allow schools to purchase any ICT equipment, but LEAs can still purchase the laptops for schools,
with bulk purchasing leading to lower prices. Schools allocate the laptops to teachers on a long-term loan.
Unlike previous schemes, the school owns the laptop, and teachers are not required to make a financial contribution. The funding cap has been set by the Department for Education and Skills (DfES) at £1,100 for this financial year. This is the maximum amount that an LEA or NMS (non-maintained special) school can spend per laptop unit using LfT funding.
