RoHS
New EU legislation on the make-up and recycling of electrical products has forced the technology industry to move environmental issues to the very top of its agenda. Various legislation and directives are currently being implemented across EU member countries with the aim of reducing the amount of waste electrical and electronic equipment and chemicals that go into land fill sites. As part of this activity, a major piece of legislation came into effect on 1st July 2006 known as the EU Directive on "Restriction of the use of certain Hazardous Substances in electrical and electronic equipment" (RoHS).
This Directive states that after July 1, 2006, most new electrical and electronic equipment cannot be sold in the EU if it contains any of the following substances (above specific concentrations (w/w)) at homogeneous material level: - Lead (0.1%) - Mercury (0.1%) - Cadmium (0.01%) - Hexavalent Chromium (0.1%) - Polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) (0.1%) - Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE) (0.1%) Each EU member state is required to implement local legislation to enforce the EU RoHS Directive.
Batteries
Used batteries should not be treated as household waste and should be collected separately. By ensuring correct disposal of your batteries, you will help prevent potential negative consequences for the environment and human health, which could otherwise be caused by inappropriate waste handling of batteries. For more detailed information about the collection and recycling programmes available in your country, please contact your local city office or the shop where you purchased the product.
