Soliton Safari Kingston-Upon-Hull LEA has made the decision to offer the Elonex Soliton Safari semi-ruggedised Laptop PC under the Laptops for Teachers Initiative to all local schools. The decision marks a distinct move away from the standard laptop PCs toward a unit that can withstand the physical demands of a school environment. To date, 180 Soliton Safari’s have been ordered.

Background
Kingston upon Hull is a unitary authority created in April 1996 with 15 secondary schools, 78 primary schools and 4 special schools serving a population of 268,000 people.

Paul Stevens is responsible for advising the 97 local schools with in Kingston-Upon-Hull. The Soliton Safari was built to withstand being dropped and having water spilt on the keyboard, therefore Mr Steven’s felt the ideal choice under the Laptops for Teachers Initiative.

Up to military standards
Elonex’s semi-ruggesdised Soliton Safari has passed military standards for water resistance, vibration and drop tests. Schools and Colleges can benefits from its durability, without paying the high price for full ruggedisation. Its alloy shell, drop and moisture resistant design and lightweight means that this machine is suitable for a school environment.

The Soliton Safari is one of a range of PCs offered by Elonex under BECTA’s Laptops for Teachers Initiative.
